The basic rules of Wurdian are similar to those of many other word games, but with a few interesting twists. Please see [link: Game Rules] for a brief explanation.
The basic game rules are similar to those of other word games, but with a few interesting twists. These differences include: a different board layout, the fact that each player receives one blank tile and has one free swap per game, and the existence of a final round. In addition, Wurdian is the only app of its kind that allows you to play games with up to 4 players, to play with or without a clock, to look up definitions of played words, to replay your games, and to keep track of your statistics and milestones for free, to name just a few of the differences.
Go to the app’s‘ Home’ page and press the ‘Start a game’ button. The games start as soon as we have found an opponent for you.
Wurdian was launched only very recently, so the number of players is still relatively small. We expect the wait times to go down substantially over the next period as more players join Wurdian.
Try to make a valid word with the 7 letters on your rack and place it in the center of the board. All letters you play in a turn must be connected either horizontally or vertically. In the first move, one of your letters must cover the central board square.
Yes, of course! Just press the “check” button at the bottom right 🙂
Each letter that you play has a value, indicated by the number on the tile. The more letters you play in a turn, the more points you get. You can get extra points by placing letters on bonus squares (DL, DW, TL, TW) or by playing all 7 letters in a single turn, which is called a bingo (+45 bonus).
A bingo is a move in which you play all 7 letters. You get 45 bonus points for each bingo.
Yes, each time you play all 7 letters in a single turn (called a “bingo”), you will get 45 bonus points!
Those squares give bonus points if you play letters on them. Playing a letter on a DL or TL tile will double or triple the score of that letter. Playing a letter on a DW or TW square will double or triple the score of the entire word!

Each player can swap some or all their letters for free once per game. Any additional swaps will end your turn.
The “final round” starts when one player has no letters left. All other players get one more turn before the game is over. The first player to finished their letters gets 25 bonus points; each other player who manages to finish their tiles in the final round gets 10 bonus points.
There are two ways a game can end. First, if one player has no letters left, all other players get one more turn and then the game is over. Second, if one player passes twice in a row and all other players also passed, the game is also over.
The first player to finish their letters receives 25 bonus points. Any remaining players will then get one more turn before the game ends and will get 10 bonus points if they manage to empty their rack too.
When you time out, you will automatically pass on that turn and the time for your next turn will be halved (24 instead of 48 hours). If you time-out twice in a row, this further halves to 12 hours, etc. The reason for the halving is that it will speed up the game considerably if your opponent decided to stop playing entirely.
This is meant to speed up games in which your opponent has stopped playing. The first time you will have to wait 48 hours for their time-out, then 24 hours for their next time-out, then 12 hours, etc.
Yes! If you tap on a word on the board, the app will look for definitions on Wikipedia and Wiktionary and show you the results in a pop-up. This feature is currently available in only some of the languages, but we are working hard on getting it to work in all languages.
Wurdian does currently not have a resign option. We believe that if you started a game, you should either finish it or agree with your opponent to terminate it by passing three times in a row.
That depends on the language you are playing in. You can find the frequency and value of each letter in your playing language under “Letter frequencies and values”.
No of course not. Bots are annoying.
No, of course not! You can view your own statistics as well as those of all other players as often as you like and entirely for free.
Statistics and milestones related to finished games only update when the game finished with an empty tile bag. If a game was finished prematurely due to consecutive passes, it is not counted in the statistics and milestones.
Milestone are specific achievements that the app automatically keeps track of. For example, one of the milestones is “Win 5 games in a row”. This milestone will be flagged as completed when you managed to win 5 games in a row. Once a milestone is completed, it will always stay that way.
Wurdian uses an AI-powered filter to automatically reject inappropriate profile pictures. Unfortunately, the filter sometimes also rejects perfectly fine pictures. Sometimes you can get around this by cropping or positioning your picture in a slightly different way.

Unfortunately, we can’t prevent other players from cheating. You can notify us by email (info@wurdian.com) so that we can look into cases of players that are reported very often. However, please be aware that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish cheaters from really good players.
Click on their profile picture and then press the “Add as friend” button. Thereafter, you will find the player under “Contacts”.

The auto-refresh can take a while. But you can refresh a player’s profile any time by tapping the refresh icon on their profile page (next to their name).
